The Matrix Wants a Reboot!
Posted by Erik on September 26, 2007
What’s with all these stars (who are franchise assets) wanting to be traded? Well AK wants out, now so does the Matrix! He feels he’s just not getting any respect. He feels the fact that Phoenix isn’t entering into contract-extension talks with him plus the fact that he’s SICK and TIRED of hearing his name in constant trade rumors has just sparked his sentiment of wanting to move on. (Read MORE!) Frankly, I don’t blame the guy. Why stay in a place where it seems you’re not wanted? Is he really unwanted in Phoenix, though? I’m sure that Phoenix is not too happy with Marion’s announcement. They were hoping to keep last year’s “title contending” lineup as intact as possible coming into this season. Well Phoenix, what are you going to do now the the Matrix has opted to take the “RED PILL“? Are we finally going to see the break up of one of the most exciting front court combos in the form of Amare and the Matrix or will Phoenix “TRY” to keep them intact by quickly offering Marion a contract extension? It looks like my fantasy of seeing him play in Utah and AK in Phoenix may be a possibility after all! Shawn Marion in a Lakers uniform wouldn’t be such a bad sight either. Kobe WANTS better backup! The matrix is definitely one of the most productive NBA stars out there, who is known to be capable of doing anything from almost anywhere on the court! We’ll have to wait and see where all these disgruntled stars end up. . .
The question is does it necessarily mean an unhappy Kobe, AK, Marion = unproductive Kobe, AK, and Marion? I guess we’re going to have to wait and see. . .
With all the news that’s going around it seems that rosters around the NBA are still potentially volatile. I think it’s early enough in the pre-season for us to see some changes.
I don’t foresee The Matrix’s stat production to change much if he does get traded. He’ll do what he’ll do. I’m just wondering AK and Marion will do a “Vince Carter” and be sorely unproductive in a “bratty” attempt to highlight their displeasure in being where they are? Somehow I feel Marion will be a PRO and do his job even if he doesn’t get what he wants right away. I wouldn’t be surprised, however, to see a slight dip in last year’s production of 17.5 PPG, 9.8 RPG, 1.5 BPG, 2.0 SPG, in the event that there will be some tension in the Phoenix locker room. Is Marion still worth a 2nd or 3rd pick? I’d still say YES. Part of me is willing to go for Kobe or even Dirk over Marion . . . I’ll make that decision on draft day.
